When getting a document notarized, one needs to have a current (or ISSUED within 5 years at the time of notarization) government issued ID. The ID must contain a photograph, identification number, signature, description of the person. Below is a list of acceptable forms of ID.

 

A: Driver license issued in the USA, Mexico or Canada 

B: DMV issued identification card 

C: Passport foreign or domestic 

D: US military ID 

E: California issued state employee ID

F: Federally recognized Tribal ID 

G: Inmate ID issued by the California Department of Corrections/Sheriff’s Department

 

If a person does not possess any of the above acceptable forms of ID, two Credible Witnesses that personally know the signer, can be used. Credible Witnesses need to have current ID and affirm the identity of the signer and placed under oath.
